Southern Spice celebrates Vishu -the New Year and the harvest festival with a delicious feast served on a thali. Set off on a culinary journey across Kerala. Different regions of the state and different communities have a distinct cuisine adding to the culinary heritage of the region and the delight of gourmands!


In June, Buzz presents the Kerala Food Festival. The menu offers many delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes that are often relatively unknown outside the state. Vegetarian dishes are often infused with fresh spices crushed or ground to a paste-like texture. The popular vegetarian dishes include sambar, aviyal, thoran, tapioca, pulisherry, mung bean and olan.


Common non-vegetarian dishes include stew (prepared with chicken, mutton and fish), chicken curry chicken fry, beef fry, fish in light gravy, fish curry, fish fry, prawn fry and spicy steamed fish prepared using local spices and ingredients such as coconut.
